Fishing methods : DAY ONE

On day one we saw a bay full of Sooty Olives floating like little Christmas trees in the breeze on the waves,but no trout were rising to them.We were fishing with floating lines using a 3 fly cast,strength of cast was 8lbs breaking strain down to 6lbs breaking strain.Flies used were,on point cinnamon variant,mid dropper claret bumble,top dropper sooty bumble.We fished on for an hour or two with no takes and due to the lack of rising fish we changed over to intermediate line,on doing this we took some trout.Most of the trout that were taken were around the half pound bracket and seeing as there is a twelve inch limit had to be returned.We fished onto the many reefs surrounding the islands and took three trout weighing from a pound and a quarter up to two and a half pounds weight.During the day we had to pull in to a few of the islands to shelter from heavy showers of hailstone and sleet.
