CARA RIVER
CARA RIVER On the previous page there are two main pools just below the bridge, the first one is called the bridge pool the second is called the tidal pool. I have fished this river over the years and find it to be a very natural and beautiful river with long deep pools and very fast scours keeping good oxygen levels in the river for most of the year.It has a good run of salmon but mostly towards the end of September.Last year I had a few good days in late September taking many salmon on fly.It is my belief in order to protect salmon stocks that catch and release methods should be employed in the late season. On the last day of the 2000 season I caught and released seven nice salmon, all fish were taken using trout flies. The flies that I used were : Thunder and Lightning,Wickhams Fancy and a Currys shrimp all the flies were size fourteen. At this time of year I use a light leader of six pounds breaking strenght with an intermediate line.
THIS IS A PICTURE OF ONE OF THE FAST SCOURS LEADING DOWN INTO THE ORCHARD POOLS.
THIS IS THE START OF THE (LONG POOL) WHICH IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE AND MOST PRODUCTIVE FISHING AREAS.
