BALLYHASS LAKES
I have fished this lake a few times and found it to be very enjoyable. There are some large rainbow trout in this lake and I have seen them for myself, big dark shadows moving in the shallow water just along the ledges. There is a large stock of rainbow and brown trout in this lake varying in size from three quarters of a pound up to in excess of twenty pounds and due to the excellent water quality and oxygen level they give a great account of themselves when hooked. The bigger fish hold in the deeper levels of the lake and have to be fished with a fast sinking line and lures. The upper layers hold some good trout between two and five pounds weight and can be reached by intermediate line with standard wet flies and gold head nymphs. In calm water I have used dry fly and taken some very game trout both brown and rainbow around the two pound bracket. On windy days fast retrieve with a floating line with bumbles along the surface can give good results. For grater coverage of the lake it is a must to fish from the boat as bank fishing is restricted in some areas. The lower lake is a great place to take someone when teaching them how to flyfish, especially younger anglers. There are plenty of free taking trout in this lake and they will definetly have a fun day out.
